Al Ain Airshow, United Arab Emirates, 11th Jan'06 - My fav' shots from the first day of the show

The stars of the show were the Russian Knights, in their 5x Sukkoi Su-27's. They flew around 5pm each day, so the light was fading, but we saw some great effects and lighting conditions. (difficult photography conditions though) These are my fav' shots, none have been brightened in any way, so hopefully you'll get a true picture of their grace & majesty:

The Russian Knights run in for their display

2x Su-27UB (2 seaters) and 3x Su-27 single seaters were flown

Lovely light on the tops as they flew their first loop

Gear down, speed brakes up,  banked pass

Very neat & tidy formation flying in these big military jets

The 5 broke in the vertical firing flares at the same time

Very nice effect in the darkening sky

The pair flew some excellent high speed close passes

and an "eye tricking" very close pass

High speed pass with a roll

Then it became a solo display, lots of afterburner finally, none seen in full effect until this point

Lovely light, as the sunset draws nearer

The 4th a/c after landing, 2 parachutes used on these big heavy jets

and the solo "bye bye" manoeuvre was a steep & fast twisting climb whilst firing flares

You can clearly see the air turbulence in the flare smoke. What an amazing display...!
